Carli, your site is very close to be very successful. I suggest to rethink the direction of the artificial amphitheater. I don’t think the orientation towards the pike is the right move. And clearly establishing this landform at the already steepest area on the lot is a real challenge. I would suggest to create a hard surface piece (may-be very thin) similar to the Malaparte landform-house (www.pep-web.org/document.php?id=IFP.009.0007A)
Oriented towards the city. The top of the steps would need a significant element to terminate and the surrounding landscape could be sculpted with a series of retaining walls parallel to the pike and soft landforms in between covered with groundcover.
The patio in front of the exhibit / café should be more formal to be of urban quality. The path thru the site could easily be random diagonal, but the edge needs to be controlled better with planters, walls, path, benches, et cetera.
